  9. USAGE

  12. The files enclosed in this archive are used to update the file ICONEDIT.CPX
  13. from version 2.13 to 2.15. It will not update the following files:
  14.  
  15.                     ICONEDIT.CPX versions less than 2.13
  16.                     Most Review Copies
  17.                     Non-USA versions of ICONEDIT.CPX
  18.                     Any other files.
  19.                     
  20. The version number of the CPX can be found by clicking once one the CPX's
  21. entry in the control panel list and then selecting 'CPX Info...' from the
  22. 'Options' popup.
  23.  
  24. Only the CPX itself needed to be updated. If you have a version of the CPX
  25. lower than 2.15 you must either first obtain the patch program which will
  26. update you to 2.13 and then use this update package or contact SDS as
  27. outlined below.
  28.  
  29. To complete the update run PATCH215.PRG. Make sure that PATCH215.DAT and
  30. PATCH215.RSC are in the same directory as PATCH215.PRG or it won't run
  31. properly.
  32.  
  33. A dialog will appear warning you to use this update process only on a
  34. backup of your original file. DO NOT UPDATE YOUR ONLY COPY!  Select
  35. 'Update' to proceed with the update process.
  36.  
  37. Use the file selector to select the version of ICONEDIT.CPX you wish to
  38. update. Select OK and the file will be updated if all is well. If an
  39. error occurred contact SDS as mentioned below to update your copy.

  41. The old CPX will be renamed ICON213.CPZ.

  43. REQUIREMENTS

  46. You will require about 250k of free memory to run the update program and
  47. space on disk for both the old and new versions of the editor (about 160k).

  49. WHAT'S DIFFERENT?

  52. Version 2.15 corrects two serious bugs that could lead to mysterious crashes.
  53. In addition, NIC has been made 'SAM aware' (see below).
  54.  
  55. SAM AWARE

  58. 'SAM' stands for System Audio Manager, an SDS product developed for Atari
  59. which allows you to attach sampled sounds to common system events like
  60. windows opening and closing, key clicks, and system beeps. In addition,
  61. SAM has the ability to allow applications to register itself with it
  62. by installing a .SAM file. After doing so, common application events like
  63. Find, Copy, Paste, Save, Exit, etc... can be assigned sounds.

  65. 'SAM' was developed for Atari and as such, is their product, therefore its
  66. availability is unknown at this time, however, a SAM file has been included
  67. with this archive (ICONEDIT.SAM) which when installed will allow you to assign
  68. sampled sounds to several internal functions inside the icon editor using SAM.
  69. Detailed instructions for doing so will be included with SAM.

  71. UPDATING OTHER VERSIONS OR PROBLEM COPIES OF THE EDITOR

  74. If you have a version of the Icon Editor of at least 2.00 you can obtain an
  75. update for free. You must be a registered user with a valid serial number.
  76. Simply send in your disk in a package with a self-addressed stamped return
  77. disk mailer with a note indicating your request to the following address:
